Here is what’s going on in Lowndes County, Georgia today. The head coach makes $145,000 a year and has nineteen assistants.

I lived in Texas for a hot second and saw pay scales like this 1st hand.
Personally, it makes me uncomfortable, when the highest paid public employee is a coach.
If they teach or are involved in other community activities, fine. Solely coaching, things get wobbly real quick.

Great for football, a microcosm of why some of these states' priorities are out of whack. Maryland underfunds and appreciates its sports (and activities) and is on the other end of the spectrum. Any state that pays someone to be a high school football coach $140K just to coach has things backwards though.

Y'all be sure to watch the Katy vs. North Shore game from Houston on ESPN this year. Both coaches only coach and are clearing 100K a year.
My friend's boyfriend is a coach making 60K in Louisiana. If you know anything about Louisiana, that's like making 150K+ in MoCo.

How much do you think a teacher in moco makes who is in system for ten years ?? I suspect coming close to 100k ; so if in system 10 years 80-90-100k depending on your level instruction experience etc your getting close to over 100 in system longer easily over 120k ; so some coaches are making good coin now if they been in system for decent amount of time when apply stipend it’s a pittance compared to effort but they do have to teach a curriculum! But you’re right not paid to just coach!

You could see some getting closer to 80K with having their masters plus 30 in that 10 years span.

If you know anything about Louisiana, that's like making 150K+ in MoCo. Big exaggeration. Cost of living indexes and living wage calculators have MOCO cost of living approximately 25%-35% higher than Louisiana. Regardless, it is ridiculous public school programs to be paying coaches who just coach (and don’t teach) this kind of $$$
