I think we still need a thread for Coaching Vacancies but understand why the last one got closed. How about we try keeping this one open by only posting a vacancy if it meets one of the two criteria?
1. It has been posted on MCPS Careers.
2. There is a statement/letter posted from coach leaving position online.
If that works… can we post the CONFIRMED Vacancies?

I really do want to understand what u mean For lack of better words he's saying coaching in a county like this entails a lot of BS to deal with in order to run a program. All the administration, helicopter partners, undisciplined kids etc.. Things are becoming very progressive and are draining these coaches ability to form a union and culture at these schools.

1. Paperwork- Things used to be very simple with the AD just collecting hard copies and putting them in a folder. Now everything is online and instead of it streamlining the process, the trash hardly works half the time and kids get dinged for the smallest thing that takes a somewhat extended amount of time to get back to the AD and then to the Coach and finally player who then must scramble with parent(s) to try to get all the requirements done only to find out that once again because of a small technicality, they can't play
2. Vaccinations- MOCO deciding to force all athletes to be vaccinated like NPCs was a huge blunder. Also a huge waste of time and stress that I can tell you from speaking to parents.. made them decide to have top athletes leave programs that needed them the most like SV and NW in favor of private schools. Boy o boy, MOCO should also probably start hiring attorney like a serious legaal team because I smell class action lawsuits coming, let one of these kids have a bad reaction, they will pay $
3. Awful Pay- The pay is horrendous for basically a year round stressful job and MOCO will not up it at all. This is a huge driving factor in Apathy and Attrition. To. add insult to injury, a coach can look south to the great states of Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and some parts of Florida where coaching by itself is a full-time job. Take a winless team under this format and dump them in the Cougar Dome, they will be highly competitive if not outright beat or destroy QO
4. Unionization - tying teaching to coaching essentially has place everyone in static tiers with very little movement... MOCO football is not exciting as you could probably guess with almost an 85% to 95% accuracy the outcome of every single game on every week. This is a disaster as I have talked to a coach who has said "given 2 or 3 season and the right staff which he has already made contacts, he could have Northwood as a solid 7-9 win team every year." However because of the desire to put only teachers in... your school will always be what it is known for. Nick Saban could retire in January and walk into any MOCO school with his massive resume of success and they would turn him away because he is not a teacher.
5. Woke Football - Cutting 2 a days, cutting camps, cutting practice in the heat, having to bench players for minor injuries and ailments. these factors are headaches that stifle success and creativity. In fact MOCO is so boring now and uncompetitive that its more enjoyable to see the bottom feeders play each other because they are so bad that the game will be good.
I could go on but I will end with this, look at the Gburg and NW fiasco. Moco knew probably about 3 days later who would be fired yet they strung people and players along in some game and wasted their time when they could have been out looking for new jobs and players looking for new schools

I am a teacher and a former high school coach- not football and not in MOCO. Coaching and teaching was manageable many moons ago but the extra duties, paperwork, meetings, etc. make it so that I have to spend many more hours per week planning and grading outside of the duty day. The county pushes so much extra crap down on teachers that many are exhausted by days end and most just don’t have the energy to be a coach, this is especially true for the academic teachers. And coaching pay is an absolute insult! Many coaches have to sacrifice family time and after teaching and running a practice, many go home and still have to get caught up on emails, grading and planning because their planning period got eaten up by an emergency coverage or meeting. It’s a vicious cycle and again, the coaching pay is an insult!

MOCO football is dying a slow death. Participation is up, across the board, in the biggest jurisdiction in the State, but it’s dying? How strange. I also find it strange a thread about coaching vacancies, has no posts about coaching vacancies.

There are legitimate conversations to be had about the challenges coaches face, as some of you have eloquently broached. Some of y'all however are gleeful doomers with a political axe to grind.

I also find it strange a thread about coaching vacancies, has no posts about coaching vacancies. What are the participation numbers in MOCO? How many more players will QO and NW steal from other MOCO schools? Numbers go up and down. As was mentioned above how will the coaching situations change? MOCO is a big jurisdiction that needs 25 head coaches and 125 or so assistant coaches. When Crown and Woodward open then you will need more. Will the quality be there? The transfer portal in college with instant playing time allows the big schools to poach the lower schools of their better players, and the lack of institutional control or ethics from some MOCO people allows schools like QO and NW to poach its competitors better players. Don't worry Wise does it to, and to follow a rule of thumb, "By any means necessary"

Moco knew probably about 3 days later who would be fired yet they strung people and players along in some game and wasted their time when they could have been out looking for new jobs and players looking for new schools Let’s dive in here: 1) most of these little things that turn into someone not being eligible to participate briefly are usually solved pretty quickly. Things such as a misspelling in the system, parent being locked out/not knowing a password, or a missed check box. The ones who get upset about this process are also the ones who do it the day of the deadline and then run into an issue expecting someone to troubleshoot it at 11:30pm the night of. 2) I don’t think it’s a requirement anymore? You’d think if someone were to have a reaction and want to sue, it would’ve happened by now? Not every child can just up and go private. There are costs. 3) coaching any sport in MoCo is not a full time position. Never will be. Most good coaches will probably say that they aren’t coaching for the money anyway. MoCo should consider making athletic trainers a full time mcps position first… 4) there are more non-teachers than everyone seems to think coaching in the county. Had to be at least 3-5 with maybe 1 or 2 more that teach in a different building than they coach. Not an insignificant number if you look at the percentages. 5) I think you forgot social media and “college promoters” because the practice structure isn’t it. Yeah, all the old heads would love to go back to 3 practices a day and no heat acclimation but that’s never going to happen. Maybe all these “woke” football players wouldn’t be as “woke” if we didn’t have every person with a camera following their every move and calling every play dawgs, goats, and him… All of the above is my personal opinion. I’m sure a few of you will opt to bash the hell out of my for having the opposing view. Take it for what it’s worth. MoCo football isn’t going anywhere and no programs are folding up anytime soon either.

Confirmed vacancies:
1) Wheaton 2) Northwest 3) Gaithersburg
Those are the three as of now could be more coming down the pipeline but that’s just rumblings.
