It really is mind boggling. We don't have to fill the building back up to have school sports, it is possible to continue virtual teaching while fielding teams and following distance guidelines. I don't understand the all or nothing attitude. It has to be hard for high school athletes to see their little brothers and sisters out playing youth sports while their high school team is shuttered down.
This has been the case throughout Frederick County for months. The rec fields are full most of the time and life goes on as usual. A lot of kids that would normally be playing school sports are just upping their travel sports participation instead. Also, the only time I really see anyone wearing a mask is at the events that draw larger crowds and that's only until people find a place to sit. You never see more than one or two people wearing a mask at baseball or softball games.
One thing that's funny is the number of teachers that you bump into at the games. ...not that I blame them one bit. It's just crazy that while the school boards act like the future of humanity hangs in the balance with regard to their decisions on school-sponsored sports, the kids are all playing together anyway with teachers watching from the stands. LOL. I don't even know what we're trying to do anymore...
