A new week, a new slate of games to predict
Blair at Northwest - Probably the game of the week. Blair has proved its dominancy, now it's time to face their first real test...which I don't expect them to pass. Hopefully they give NW a good fight though.
Gaithersburg at Paint Branch - Gburg has impressed in its first two games while PB has left heads shaking. This is Gburg's chance to go the distance, and I think they will, though it'll be close.
Watkins Mill at Damascus - The National Anthem might be more interesting than the actual game
Wootton at Quince Orchard - I could see Wootton putting up a fight, but Beander and Bazzie will be back and ready to run people over
Clarksburg at BCC - The games each team played against Sherwood weren't quite enough to answer everything. But I think BCC can edge Clarksburg and get its first win
Einstein at Whitman - Having a private in the schedule sucks, but at least now Whitman gets Einstein to beat up on.
Northwood at Springbrook - Feel bad for Springbrook. They have a chance against Northwood, but given the Wood's performance against Magruder I have to lean in their favor
Seneca Valley at Churchill - The Screamin' Eagles are out for blood. Churchill might not get a win until Week 10.
Sherwood at Magruder - Hopefully the SW offense continues to be on fire. Magruder's playoff hopes in the 3A South are in jeopardy (and would be nonexistent anywhere else)
Kennedy at Walter Johnson - Flipped a coin for this one
Poolesville at Winters Mill - No idea what Winters Mill is so pulling for the MoCo team. Plus a Poolesville win is long overdue (and definitely won't happen next week)
Rockville at RM - Ah, the battle for Rockville. Expecting a good fight, but don't have reason to think that RM will lose this.
Blake at Wheaton - Maybe if the team with the best entrance is awarded 7 points...

This is the closest thing I've seen to a classic Montgomery Marty column in years. Nice job !!!!!

Blair 23 at Northwest 42 - While Blair certainly has done a nice job of improving each season under Coach Fields, I still think they are a step or two below a program such as Northwest. Playoff Implications: Huge game in the 4A West, as both teams are playoff contenders. Blair can make not only a statement, but also put itself in position for a run at a potential home playoff game. Northwest cannot afford a loss here with Sherwood and QO still on the schedule.
Gaithersburg 16 at Paint Branch 13 - Gaithersburg hung tough with Northwest and surprised some with a convincing win over WM. Paint Branch did not impress against Whitman, and he offense did not show much against Blake. Playoff Implications: Paint Branch may have to run the table to stay in the 4A North race. However, Baltimore County canceled its Week 2 games due to the heat and AC issues with schools... it will be interesting to see the impact on the 4A North playoffs. Gaithersburg can remain in the 4A West hunt with a win here, but a loss makes it difficult for the Trojans, with QO and SV left on the schedule.
Watkins Mill 14 at Damascus 44 - Watkins Mill must be disappointed with the loss vs. Gaithersburg. But a moral victory is the only hope this week. Playoff Implications: Damascus looks to continue its march towards a top seed in the 3A West. Watkins Mill will be in the thick of the 3A South playoff hunt. Fortunately for WM, a win here is not necessary. But an upset over Damascus would surely set the 'Rines up nicely in their region.
Wootton 14 at Quince Orchard 50 - Wootton has put up some good numbers so far, but Kennedy and Springbrook are not close to the level of QO. Playoff Implications: QO will be favored in the rest of the Cougars' games, and will likely be a top seed in the 4A West. Wootton has been impressive so far, but the Patriots will have to pull an upset or two against the big boys if they plan to make the playoffs.
Clarksburg 20 at BCC 12 - B-CC certainly played Sherwood closer than Clarksburg did, but word is that was more because of the Warriors' penalties than the Barons' play. Playoff Implications: This is a must win game for both teams. The loser of this game likely will not make the playoffs in the 4A West, while the winner still remains hopeful.
Einstein 30 at Whitman 20 - Whitman shocked MoCo with its opening win vs. PB, but didn't do much vs. Landon. Einstein hung in there vs. RM and looked good vs. Churchill. Playoff Implications: This is a must win game for both teams. The winner of this game should have a good chance of 6-4, and can dream of 7-3. The loser of this game likely will be on the outside of the playoff race in the 4A West.
Northwood 7 at Springbrook 6 - How bad is Springbrook, getting steamrolled by both Blake and Wootton? Northwood squeaked out a win over a bad Magruder team. Should be a close, low scoring game. Playoff Implications: Springbrook is already toast in the 4A North. Northwood, while a playoff run is unlikely in the 4A West, could at least remain in the hunt with a win here and a few small upsets on the remaining schedule.
Seneca Valley 34 at Churchill 7 - This game should not be a close one. Playoff Implications: Churchill is pretty much done already in the 4A West. Seneca Valley will likely continue its march towards a top seed in the 3A West.
Sherwood 48 at Magruder 14 - This game should not be a close one. Playoff Implications: Sherwood cannot lose games like this in the 4A North. Magruder, after losing two winnable games to start the season, likely will not make a return trip to the 3A South playoffs (although an upset here would get the Colonels back in the conversation).
Kennedy 12 at Walter Johnson 10 - Two of the worst teams in MoCo. I'll give the nod to Kennedy, for no apparent reason. Playoff Implications: None. Neither team will be close to a 4A West playoff race.
Poolesville 17 at Winters Mill 28 - Winters Mill is coming into the game undefeated. My heart roots for the MoCo team, but my head says Winters Mill. Playoff Implications: Poolesville has likely already played its way out of the 3A West race. I don't know much about the 2A West, but I would imagine that Winters Mill will certainly be in the thick of the playoff race if a win results in a 3-0 start.
Rockville 20 at RM 31 - Hard to get a read on Rockville based on the first two weeks. A dominating win over a bad WJ team and a (not surprising) loss to Damascus. Playoff Implications: RM needs wins like this to keep up the momentum from last season. Rockville needs a win like this to keep pace in the 3A South. This game has not only local bragging rights, but also big playoff implications.
Blake 21 at Wheaton 13 - Wheaton is coming off two close wins, over Magruder (OT) and Poolesville. Blake is coming off a tough rivalry loss to Paint Branch. Blake may not be as ready for prime time as a few of its ardent fans thought, but its defense has been dominant. Playoff Implications: Wheaton sits toward the top of the 3A South after a 2-0 start. A win here would give the Knights the inside track toward a repeat appearance in the playoffs. Blake has a tough road ahead, but a win here keeps the Bengals' playoff hopes alive in the 3A South. There will likely be two MCPS teams to qualify in that region, and this game will help sort that out. Huge playoff implications for these teams.

NW vs Blair should be a great game and will probably, and rightly, be the GOTW, but The Einstein vs Whitman match up is very intriguing to me. I think that should be a very good game too.
